Wonderful Copenhagen launches "all inclusive" tourist portal

Published 6 May 2011

In April, visitors to Copenhagen got a new tourist portal. VisitCopenhagen.dk gives visitors a more complete experience of what’s happening in the Danish capital and vicinity than was previously available.

The portal, which came about in cooperation with Creuna and the Norwegian data processing company tellUs, combines traditional tourist information with local blog posts from Downtown, reviews from TripAdvisor, pictures from Flickr, YouTube videos and Facebook integration.

Tourists coming to visit the Copenhagen area need only visit one site for a comprehensive, wide-ranging overview of what’s going on in the region.  The new VisitCopenhagen.dk being launched today gathers the best Copenhagen has to offer as seen from may different eyes.

“We want to give visitors an ‘all inclusive’ experience with all the information they need about greater Copenhagen – not just from us, but from local bloggers and social media, from people who really have been here and live here. Copenhagen is open for interpretation, and our mission has been to create an authentic and transparent travel guide to the city” says e-business manager Rylle Maja Sønderstrup from Wonderful Copenhagen, which is behind VisitCopenhagen.dk.

Cooperation among Wonderful Copenhagen, Creuna and tellUs

The portal has come about in cooperation with Creuna, which won the EU competitive-bid contract in September.

“To be part of branding one’s national capital along with an ambitious customer like Wonderful Copenhagen is a fantastic opportunity. It has been fun and challenging, and we are happy that Wonderful Copenhagen has had the courage and willingness to exploit the many digital possibilities for branding the city that we sketched out together in the initial phases”, says Line Huusom, Creuna’s account manager.

The other large partner is Norway’s tellUs, which has managed a lot of the data seen on the portal. In addition, tellUs processed the same dats for the mobile application and infostands in the physical tourist information office.

A window onto Copenhagen and vicinity

The new portal’s visual style is marked by the wish to create a reliable and transparent window onto Copenhagen and vicinity, so tourist can get an impression of the place before ever leaving home. Using pictures from the social photo-sharing site Flickr allows tourists and Copenhageners themselves to tell about the city.

“Our ambition has been to create the world’s best window onto Copenhagen and vicinity. Vacations as a rule always start online, and we want visitors to get their first impression of Copenhagen that way. Pictures and videos are a really good way to do that”, says Rylle Maja Sønderstrup.

Personal guide to Copenhagen

On the new portal, visitors can also continue creating their own personal guide to the area with the help of a shopping cart function. Tourists add what they want to experience in the city, and when the guide is finished, it can be printed out, downloaded onto a smartphone or shared on social media. It also makes it easier to book accommodations and Copenhagen Cards.
