Post Danmark wins award for mobile innovation

“A practical, user-friendly service that has marked Post Danmark in a new way – not just in relation to smartphone users, but also to those with ordinary cell phones.”

These words of praise came from editor-in-chief Steen Jørgensen of the Danish magazine Mobil at the 2011 Danish Mobile Awards. Post Danmark, the Danish postal service, received the “Best Danish App/Innovation of the Year” award in recognition of its extensive work in mobile innovation. These efforts included the development of apps that make using Post Danmark’s range of products and services easier and more enjoyable.

One of these services was Mobile Postage, a service that can be used by all cell phone owners. Users send a text message or use the dedicated app, after which they receive a code from Post Danmark in just seconds. Then, users write the code on the letter where the stamp should have been and the letter is ready to send. Easy and convenient.

Technology that makes sense

Post Danmark thereby shows that innovation is not necessarily synonymous with highly complicated technology, but rather with technology that makes sense. This technology enhances accessibility to products and includes – instead of excludes – the users.

In 2012, Creuna will build upon this very approach as Post Danmark’s digital partner. “Together with Creuna, we are going to develop additional digital solutions that provide our customers with convenience and save them time,” says Ulla Rixen, Head of Digital Channels at Post Danmark. “It’s about digitalizing products and services that are traditionally physical – but in the right way, which is where Creuna comes into the picture.”

For Post Danmark, it is important to avoid “just releasing an app” – the app must create commercial value for the company. “Creuna can help us with this,” says Ulla Rixen. “And they will help us to continue thinking innovatively and developing new solutions that do not necessarily have a physical counterpart, but which increase convenience for our customers.”
